BACKGROUND

Agriculture plays a crucial role in the national economy of Afghanistan and significantly contributes to its growth. With approximately 70 percent of Afghans residing in rural areas and primarily working on farms, the agricultural sector is the backbone of the country’s economy. Recent reports from the World Bank emphasize that 61 percent of all households in Afghanistan derive their income from agriculture. Furthermore, statistics indicate that the agriculture sector employs roughly 40 percent of the total Afghan workforce, making it the largest employer in the country.

It is worth noting that agriculture is particularly vital for rural communities, as half of the Afghan rural population is engaged in agricultural activities. These findings highlight the immense significance of the agriculture sector not only in terms of economic development but also for the livelihoods of numerous individuals and families in Afghanistan.

However, the agriculture sector in Afghanistan faces several challenges that hinder its growth and potential. Insufficient access to modern farming techniques, limited availability of high-quality seeds and fertilizers, inadequate irrigation systems, and a lack of investment in agricultural infrastructure are among the numerous obstacles contributing to the current state of the sector.

To address these issues and unlock the full potential of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector, the International Conference on Green Revolution for Self-Sufficient Afghanistan has been organized. The conference aims to bring together experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders from across the globe to collectively deliberate and develop comprehensive strategies for achieving a green revolution in Afghanistan.

By focusing on sustainability, innovative technologies, effective resource management, and promoting organic farming practices, the conference endeavors to pave the way for a self-sufficient Afghanistan in terms of food production. The discussions and outcomes of the conference will help shape agricultural policies, identify investment opportunities, and establish long-term partnerships to drive transformative change in Afghanistan’s agriculture sector.

Through the International Conference on Green Revolution for Self-Sufficient Afghanistan, the goal is to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices that will enable Afghanistan to overcome the existing challenges and establish itself as a leading agricultural nation. This conference presents a unique opportunity for collaboration and cooperation, fostering a sustainable and prosperous future for Afghanistan’s agriculture industry.

AIM

The main aim of this conference is to bring together experts, scholars, policymakers, industries, and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable practices, address challenges, showcase new technologies, and facilitate networking opportunities for the improvement of the agriculture sector in Afghanistan.
